"What's that on the wall behind you?" is a common question during my video interviews and chats.
It's my "Wally Wall."
My brain works in streams of consciousness that flows faster than what I can type and oftentimes in a non-linear fashion, and so does yours.
Ideas, concepts, locations, people, processes, dates, equipment, timeframes, collaborations, spin-offs and more.
I rarely start at the beginning and end at the end. I start wherever my stream of consciousness has the strongest and clearest thoughts and work forwards and backwards from there.
All of this, and I do mean ALL of this, goes on 3x5 cards and whiteboards. I don't edit myself when the ideas are flowing, just get them all out.
Once everything is 'on the wall,' I can visually see the entire picture and start organizing the ideas into a workable plan, concept, campaign, series, product, workflow, process or organizational chart.
The worst thing you can do when brainstorming, ideating, or otherwise problem-solving is to 'start at the beginning, end at the end and self-edit along the way.'
Never edit yourself until you've allowed your thoughts to flow freely and get them all 'on the wall.' You may surprise yourself with how well one of your 'stupid ideas' fits into the final solution.
Yes, the image is blurred. I can't give away all of my ideas. Enjoy Bullseye, Kermit and Pepe the King Prawn! :)
